My image (see above) “Freedom for Iran” is a Finalist in the Editorial category of the 2023 Sony Alpha Awards.

This marks the fourth overall citation, and possibly second overall award win, for this image. It continues an incredible run in photography competitions over the last year.

The image has previously made the shortlist in the 2022 Australian Photography Awards. It also won – by a significant margin – the 2022 Amnesty International Australia Photography Competition.

Furthermore, the image placed in the top 30 of the Documentary category of Australasia’s Top Emerging Photographers Awards.

Additionally, it marks the possible second year in a row of my images taking out the Editorial category prize in the Sony Alpha Awards. An image taken at an Extinction Rebellion protest action won the category award in 2022.

Winners are expected to be announced in early September.
