No coal to hydrogen for Victoria

The Commons 🡢 No coal to hydrogen for Victoria

August 30, 2023

A rally opposing coal to hydrogen production in Victoria. The rally was supported by the Greens, Friends of the Earth and numerous other grassroots collectives and groups.

Japanese owned J-Power and Sumitomo industries want to use Victoria’s brown coal to produce hydrogen in the Latrobe Valley for export to Japan.

WAIT, WHAT? WON’T THIS PRODUCE AROUND 730,000 CARS WORTH OF CLIMATE POLLUTION EACH YEAR, you ask? Yes, and that is why they plan the biggest carbon capture and storage (CCS) project attempted to offset emissions, ignoring the fact that not a single CCS project has been shown to work anywhere in the world.
