Rally: Free the refugees – permanent visas now

Rally called by Refugee Action Collective (RAC) Melbourne demanding immediate freedom for refugees being held in indefinite detention.

The Morrison Coalition government is increasingly isolated in its continued torturous detention of 60 Medevac refugees, including 32 in the Park Hotel. Morrison has resorted to bald faced lies about the refugee status of the people it is detaining.

Thirty religious leaders, including Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus and Sikhs came together to call out Morrison's hypocrisy and to call for freedom for the refugees. The Labor party has finally called for the refugees to be released, saying they will be free on the first day should it win the election.

Speakers included Celeste Liddle, the Greens candidate for the federal division of Cooper, Muftahudin Babackerkil - former adviser to previous Afghan government on Refugee Affairs and (via phone from inside the Park Hotel) medevac refugee Ismail Hussein.
