We once again returned to the Geelong City Market to photograph its latest initative: the Geelong City Night Market. For the uninitiated; the Geelong City Market was founded and is managed by two-time MasterChef contestant Simon Toohey, known for his plant based cooking. The Geelong City Night Market also launched 2026 Tastes of Greater Geelong - a month long local food festival promoted by the City of Greater Geelong.
The market was an evening of food, of course. With numerous street food vendors in attendance: including Señor BBQ, Hoy Pinoy Filipino BBQ and Streetfood, The Hanging Cheese Man (Pacelli Deli) and Taste Jamaica, among others.
Performers included the Lara Big Band, FARAH, Stefan West and Corey Cookson - all local Geelong based acts. In total, thousands of people streamed through Little Malop Street while the market was open. We effectively captured the vibe of the evening: people coming together, enjoying the food and the music, as well as photos of the vendors and the performers themselves.
We only wish that the organisers could have access to a bigger space for these more ad hoc and themed market events (as it did get very crowded), with a greater variety of vendors and stalls, dedicated stage and lighting for musicians and performers, the works. There's potential for these sorts of events to have a proper festival vibe for people to come and connect over good local food and music. We hope the City of Greater Geelong sees the success of this event and works with the team at the Geelong City Market in future to promote and hold more themed events like this.
We provide professional photography services for all sorts of community events around Geelong, Melbourne and all across Victoria. Get in contact with details about your event for a quote.
