Allied Health workers in Victoria walk off the job for a second time

Public sector Allied Health Professionals in Victoria have walked off the job for a second time to demand better pay, stronger working conditions and stronger recognition for the role that they play in the delivery of health services. 

Allied Health Professionals are demanding a 36% pay increase over 3 years (in order to catch up with the increase in cost of living and to make up for underpayment in previous years), reform to modernise career structures, improved workloads and lifting standards and reducing structural pay and condition gaps across the whole Allied Health sector.

The main strike action, held outside of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, saw more than 1,000 Allied Health Professionals rally; with the action organised by their union, the Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association (VAHPA).

Public sector workers in Victoria are continuing to fight the State Government to demand better pay and working conditions; among them including public school education workers, council workers, medical scientists and Parks Victoria staff all continuing with industrial action after receiving inadequate bargaining offers, or none at all, from the State Government. Public hospital doctors will be joining them on August 13, in the first strike of doctors in 20 years.
