Photography For Beginners

$120.00

Description and details:

This is a booking credit for a 3 hour on location photography beginners workshop. Workshops will take place at either a Melbourne CBD or Geelong Waterfront location, depending on the location of the student or their willingness to travel.

Description and workshop content:

This is a workshop for people who have very little experience in photography or DSLR/mirrorless camera use. In the first half of this class students will learn the basics of camera operation in Manual mode and attaining good image exposure in available light through a range of practical exercises. Students will also learn about depth of field and movement in images, the basic elements (line, shape, form, colour, size and depth) and using these to compose visually interesting looking images. The second half of this class will have students putting this knowledge into self-guided practice (with input and advice where asked) by taking photos around the location – the exact subject matter being up to the student to decide. Some parts of this workshop may be guided by student input and interest. At the end of this workshop, students can expect to have foundational understanding of photography, plus a basic portfolio of images that they can then use to further build upon their photographic skills.

For this workshop, each student will need to bring:

  • A digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera, or a mirrorless camera, capable of being used in Manual shooting mode with the battery fully charged, and with an SD card that has enough space for photos. Phone cameras, point and shoot cameras and other cameras without manual control aren’t suitable for this workshop.
  • A lens that covers a good, ‘normal’, focal range. (i.e. 50mm, 18-55mm, 24-70mm)

Workshop sizes will be limited to a maximum of 5 students per class. If you’re intending to attend a class with a friend/s or relative/s, please purchase the number of booking credits to cover the number of people (up to 5) who’ll be attending with you, or have them note this when contacting after purchase so that you can be allotted to the same workshop.

At the checkout page, in the “Order Notes” field, please state your date/s plus time/s of availability. If you forget to do this, please please contact me citing your name, phone number and location.

Terms and conditions: Upon purchase, booking credit is tied to the name and phone number of the purchaser, and doesn’t expire. Booking credits are non-refundable. Booking credit is re-credited if a) the student cancels more than 24 hours before the workshop is to begin or b) the workshop has to be cancelled due to circumstances outside of the student’s control. Booking credit is forfeited in the event of most late (within 24 hours) cancellations. Credit is also forfeited if the student can’t participate in the workshop due to not bringing the required equipment. For people 18 years or older, though under 18’s may accompany parents at no extra cost. Non-purchasers won’t be permitted at a workshop unless they pay upfront on the day and the workshop isn’t already full.
